[MRSSA News] Driver Certification

P.S. Tom Ghiloni the former NSSA President supports it as well. The 2005 board information isn't on USA Water Ski yet, so I'm not sure if he holds an official position anymore.

Information only regarding the existing petition:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We are at 10 teams from Wisconsin. (waiting on board action from 5 more)
River Rats and Ski Otters from MN.
Souix Falls from S.D.
Tampa Bay
US Waterski Team East Coast
Neptune East Coast
Grand City, Grand Rapids MI.

Waiting for several more from Wisconsin. Cam McNeil, the new NSSA President,
called me on Tuesday night. He surprised me and said that he supported our
efforts to get this changed. He said that he would do whatever it takes to make
this happen at Think Tank. Cam is with a smaller club in the East and they
struggle with compliance also. Gary Stout (NSSA Board and Tampa Bay) from the
Southern Region is also lending us his support.

Jim Martin
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lynn Novakofski is involved as well; not sure if he holds a position.

Team liability is as big a concern as compliance.

I can be at ski motion on the 21st with bells on, but, would like to know if there is sufficient need for instruction on the 22nd I can arrange other instructors from Roch if needed. I think Dave is absolutely right. We did have input on the drivers program. The drivers program as stands is not going to be changed this year. (All rule changes for the NSSA happen at the winter meeting in Nov.) The smartest thing we, as a region, could do is try it for the year. Should it become a major problem after the year we can submit a proposed change in the fall to be considered at the Nov meeting. This is the correct procedure and will carry the most weight and consideration. In addition, if we have a problem, likely, there will be other teams in, or out, of the same boat. It would be best not to rock our boat and make needless waves. In my opinion it will do no good for our individual teams to create, sign, or back any petitions attempting to undermine the new driver testing policy and procedure. I also feel we should stay united on this. I think it should be placed on the agenda for the MRSSA meeting on Feb 26th.
