[MRSSA News] Driver Certification

I would be happy to set up the meeting room at fire station
1. We will need a conference call #, if someone has access to one we
can use. I need to know what time we would like to meet. 10 or 11
sounds about right to me. Get back to me so I can set the room. I can
be at ski motion on the 21st with bells on, but, would like to know if
there is sufficient need for instruction on the 22nd I can arrange
other instructors from Roch if needed. I also would like to schedule a
testing time on Sat if this is possible. I am hoping not to burn up any
vacation for the 22nd.
I think Dave is absolutely right. We did have input on the drivers
program. The drivers program as stands is not going to be changed this
year. (All rule changes for the NSSA happen at the winter meeting in
Nov.) The smartest thing we, as a region, could do is try it for the
year. Should it become a major problem after the year we can submit a
proposed change in the fall to be considered at the Nov meeting. This
is the correct procedure and will carry the most weight and
consideration. In addition, if we have a problem, likely, there will be
other teams in, or out, of the same boat. It would be best not to rock
our boat and make needless waves. In my opinion it will do no good for
our individual teams to create, sign, or back any petitions attempting
to undermine the new driver testing policy and procedure. I also feel
we should stay united on this. I think it should be placed on the
agenda for the MRSSA meeting on Feb 26th. If anyone is interested in
making any kind of statement or proposal we can address it at that time.
We can then decide what we want to do.

                        B

Subject: RE: [MRSSA News] Driver Certification

I pulled this out of the 9/26 minutes, see below....

---Larry...Was Chris approved to be an Tow Boat Instructor?

---Ski Otters agreed to host a driver clinic the weekend of May 21-22.
Let's proceed. All teams were aware of it and wanted it. (it was
distributed in the 9/26 meeting minutes by Kristi on 9/28 to this
distribution list)

---If the River Rats are going to host a clinic for their drivers at a
different time it will be a second opportunity for drivers.

---Kristi, were you successful in contacting Herb regarding the Safety
Clinic?

---Bruce, you were going to spearhead a doubles clinic, is this
progressing?

---We will need to submit a grant request for the ski motion. We can do
it at our next meeting.

---Larry, the only open item on the LOC agreement that I am aware of is
whether or not we will have a plaque for Dock&Equipment. As part of an
earlier email, this is an agenda item for our MRSSA winter meeting. I
have not rec'd a signed copy of the LOC agreement. Please hand-write
the open item and return it to me.

---Steve Anderson, it sounds like you are creating a petition of some
sort... can you please put it in writing and present it to/or at the
next MRSSA meeting. As we have a voice with the NSSA board, we want
things to come through the regional board and have support of a majority
of the teams within the region. We had input into the modification of
the certified boat driver rule before it went to the fall NSSA meeting.
Although our recommendation was not approved verbatim, the final outcome
was much better for showskiing then having the 100% requirement...

---Steve Anderson, I think you are misinterpreting the new rule. A
learner's permit is just that. A formal permit to learn. There is no
driving test to recieve a learner's permit. You need the club president
to sign for liability reasons and also a certified driver on the team
who agrees to be a mentor. This is all makes good sense in my opinion.
Having boat drivers (and others) safety certified also makes good sense
as Larry mentioned in his email.

---I agreed to try and get Pete Bonnert to attend to teach the Judges
Clinic. Based on my conversations so far with judges in the midwest
region, I have not found any judges who need to attend the refresher
class this spring. (Judges need to attend this meeting every two
years.) I am still checking with more judges... update will be provided
at next MRSSA meeting.

Next meeting - Feb 26 in Rochester. Bruce, can we meet at the firehouse
again?

dave.

exerpts from Kristi's 9/26 MRSSA meeting minutes......(sorry the
formating is bad).

A. Ski Motion Discussion
1. Ski Motion to be held the weekend of May 21-22.
2. Ski Otters offered to host the Ski Motion
(Drivers/Safety/Judges Clinic)
        - Dave Nemec will try to get Pete Bonnert for Judges Clinic,
Kristi Skillings will try to get Herb Shulte or Steve Haner
for Safety
and we are waiting on Chris (Sioux Falls) for the board to
approve him as a certified NSSA driver tester.
3. Would like to add a doubles-clinic in conjunction with
Ski Motion. Bruce Berg will look into getting doubles-couples up to
instruct.
   4. Grant requests need to be made to NSSA by April 1st.
B. Update of 2005 Regional Tournament
Waterhawks are making some site improvements (dock, bleachers, etc)
C. Next Meeting
Saturday, prior to Think Tank - to be held in Rochester.

The Ski Otters are more than willing to host Ski Motion again.
I just didn't want to duplicate any efforts if a clinic in early
June made more sense for teams.

I will keep moving forward with the Ski Motion Clinics
	 - Dave Nemec . . . you were checking on an instructor for
driver and judge . . . any committments yet?
	 - Steve - If you could get me more info on the petition . . .
our team will be signing it.
